Sebastian & I were able to get his train set up & running today (with some phone support from Pa) and it’s working marvelously! Sebastian was initially hesitant to try to drive the train himself and instead manned the power supply for the candy shop lights, but once I explained to him the similarities of our transformer with Pa’s more modern (& much less intimidating) version he warmed right up to the job, engineer’s cap & all. As I began setting up the track he kept saying, in awed tones, “I didn’t know we had this. Did you know we had this? I didn’t know we had this!” Suffice it to say he’s thrilled. AM is disappointed as Allied Trains in Culver City has changed owners and moved across the street, vacating the replica of Union Station that was it’s former home. Apparently the model train industry is disappearing and the space was too large for modern demand. Perhaps we can do a little bit to help keep the hobby alive, assuming, that is, we can find a permanent home for our humble set up. My guess is that we’ll head out to the Whistle Stop in Pasadena sooner than latter to add to our supply of track & models. AM & I are even more excited than Sebastian!
